Adventure Sunday: Healesville Sanctuary {August}

It was a beautiful winter's day so we decided to head off to Healesville Sanctuary to pay the animals a little visit.

There's a beautiful look out on the way so we decided to stop for some photos...

We left a little late in the day really, so we needed to keep moving once we got there if we wanted to see everything...

There's this awesome eagle sculpture at the entrance...

We then made our way around to the wetlands to see the birds...

You can make a gold coin donation and feed the birds and after a very in depth search of my handbag I turned up nothing.  A kind family was finished and let us have their plate and leftover birdseed.  We were very thankful!

We were determined to make it to the "Spirits of the Sky" show and I'm so glad we did.  The boys loved it and we learnt lots of interesting facts.

Zooperman!

I didn't really get any great shots of the birds but those eagles were so so big!

We quickly raced around to the reptile enclosure...

My own little Zoopermans!  Jaydenzooperman...

and Ethanzooperman (check out that serious superhero face!)

This wooden sculpture was amazing and the boys were drawn to it straight away.  Not sure what it was though...haha.

Tassie devils...

Mr Wombat...

Ethan looks a bit excited about something...

There's a great new playground that I'm sure wasn't there last time.  The kids had a great time on the slides and excavating bones in the sand.

Next was the walk through the kangaroo enclosure.  They roam free although there are some boundaries that you aren't supposed to pass.

Lucky last as the light was beginning to fade was the koalas.  They were all really active which was great although my photos turned out a little blurry...

We made a swift exit as it's over an hour drive home, but quickly pulled into another lookout just out of Healesville.  The view is amazing overlooking Maroondah Dam.

On we kept going and then the traffic stopped and we realised that a tree had fallen across the road only 4 cars ahead of us!  Luckily there was plenty of traffic and men with chainsaws quickly cut it and moved it aside.  Was a bit of a scare though knowing how close we were to having a tree land on top of us!   Sure was a bit of extra gratitude when we returned home safely that evening!

Such a fun day and we all slept very well that night!
